Diabetic retinopathyis one of the leading cause of blindness in diabetic patients. At first patient with Diabetic retinopathyretinopat feel any kind of changes but with time it get worse and leads to vision loss.
There are 4 stages of retinopathy and first three stages does not requires any kind of treatment. In later stages with macular edema, vision loss is seen.
Patient with diabetes should control there levels of:

Blood pressure
Blood sugar
Blood cholesterol

Treatment in prolifirative retinopathy

Prolifirative retinopathy is treated with lasik / laser surgery.
In few cases vitrectomy is done

Treatment of macular retinopathy

Laser surgery is performed to treat laser surgery, focal laser treatment is performed. Hundred of laser burns are placed in the area of retinal leakage around the macula. This slows down the leakage of fluid and reduces the fluid around retina.
Surgery is often one session only, followed by further treatment.

Surgery helps to stabilize the vision. About 50% of risk is of vision loss is reduced by this treatment.
